Free Webcam Test

Webcam Test previews your camera and shows its reported resolution and settings, the measured frame rate and lighting tips based on brightness, contrast and clipped areas. A resolution tester tries eight modes from 320×240 to 4K one by one, and snapshots download as PNG. Firefox does not report camera capabilities, so some details are missing there.

Quick answers

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. The video is only shown on this page. Snapshots stay in your browser until you download them.

Why is the measured frame rate lower than 30 fps?

Many webcams lower their frame rate automatically in dim light to get a brighter picture. Add light in front of you, or close other apps that use the camera.

Frequently asked questions

The browser says the camera is in use or not found. What can I do?

Close other apps or tabs that use the camera (video calls, recorders), check the camera's privacy switch or shutter, and allow camera access for your browser in the operating system's privacy settings.

Why does my preview look mirrored?

Front cameras are usually shown mirrored, like a mirror. Other people see you the normal way. Turn off “Mirror preview” to see the real orientation.
