Quick answers

How do I convert SRT to VTT (or VTT to SRT)?

Open the file and press the button of the format you want (SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV, LRC or TXT). The timings and basic italics/bold are converted.

My subtitles drift out of sync over time. How do I fix it?

Use Two-point sync: enter the correct start time of an early cue and of a late cue (the Now button copies the playhead). All cues are stretched linearly, which fixes both offset and frame-rate drift.

How to use the Subtitle Editor

  1. Open a subtitle file (SRT, VTT, ASS/SSA, SBV, LRC…) or start from scratch, and optionally add the video or audio.
  2. Play the media: the current cue appears over the video. Drag cues on the waveform to retime them, or drag on an empty area to add one.
  3. Edit times and text in the list, split, merge, insert or delete cues; use Shift, Two-point sync, Fix overlaps, Find & replace or Remove tags on the side.
  4. Check the warnings (too fast, long lines, overlaps) and download as SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV, LRC or TXT.

Frequently asked questions

Is my work saved?

Yes, a draft is saved automatically in this browser and offered again when you come back. Nothing is uploaded.

Do I need the video?

No. You can edit and convert subtitles alone; the video or audio adds the player, the live preview and the waveform.
