Quick answers

Which keys play which notes?

The home row plays white keys starting from the C shown under Keys & MIDI (A = C, S = D, D = E…) and the row above plays the black keys (W, E, T, Y, U, O, P). Z and X shift the octave; C and V make the computer keys softer or louder.

Can I use a real MIDI keyboard?

Yes, in browsers with Web MIDI (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox on desktop). Press Connect a MIDI keyboard, allow access, and play: velocity and the sustain pedal are supported.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any delay?

The piano uses the browser's low-latency audio mode. If you hear a delay, close other audio apps or use wired headphones: Bluetooth adds noticeable latency.

Where do the piano sounds come from?

From the Salamander Grand Piano V3, a free sample set of a Yamaha C5 grand recorded by Alexander Holm and released under CC-BY 3.0.

Are the songs free to use?

Yes. All eight melodies are in the public domain and were arranged for this site in simplified form.
